Here’s what I think Joe should say at the debate tomorrow night.
“This debate, and this election, are not about Joe Biden, or Paul Ryan, or even about Mitt Romney and Barack Obama. It’s about our country. It’s about where we’ve been, where we are now, and where we’re going. We’re NOT where we want to be right now, but we’re headed in the right direction, and President Obama is fighting every day for the people of this country. (Looking directly at Ryan…) You, your candidate, and your party would take us back to the very policies that caused the economic crisis that the President has been working to dig us out of, with no help from Republicans. President Obama and the Democratic Party will take us forward, and that’s the direction we need to be going. Your party campaigned in 2010 on jobs, jobs, jobs. The economy was really bad, people were suffering, and Republicans said that jobs would be their job one. Instead, they –you–blocked every single job measure the President proposed, and even blocked things Republicans themselves had previously proposed. Republicans took America’s middle class hostage and created a national debt ceiling crisis that got America’s credit rating downgraded for the first time in our history. Republicans walked away from a $4 trillion deficit-reduction deal. And instead of creating jobs, Republicans almost shut down the government. (Looking at the audience/camera.) Do you remember over what, America? Birth control. Birth control! Don’t fall for their false promises,America. We’re on the right track, and more important, President Obama is fighting for YOU! You know that, and you know who they’re fighting for.” – What Joe Biden should say at the debate tomorrow night
Good luck tomorrow, Joe:
You’ll do great, I know.
In addition to the above, here’s some more general advice. Don’t focus on Paul Ryan beyond a few references to and discussion of the Ryan plan and Romney’s support of it. Otherwise, the whole debate could end up being about Ryan, which would marginalize it’s value. Instead, focus on Mitt Romney, his plan, and his dishonest attacks on the President.
I know you’ve got professionals working on this, but I just wanted to put my two cents in.
