War on Christmas

December 16th, 2010

Inspired by Reid, Kyl and the ridiculous ‘war on Christmas’ (WashingtonPost.com 12/16/10), Consumer debt keeps falling, but credit-card bills linger (Consumer Reports 11/08/10), and the GOP’s Christmas spirit.

“It is impossible to do all the things that the Majority Leader laid out without, frankly, disrespecting the institution, and without disrespecting one of the two holiest of holidays for Christians.” – Senator Kyl

“[It’s] sacrilegious. You can’t jam a major arms control treaty right before Christmas. What’s going on here is just wrong. This is the most sacred holiday for Christians.” – Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC)

“I don’t need any sanctimonious lectures from Senator Kyl and DeMint to remind me of what Christmas means. My question, Madame President, is where were their concers about Christmas during filibuster after filibuster on major pieces of legislation during this entire Congress.” – Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid

“Don’t tell me about Christmas. I understand Christmas. I have been a Senator for a long time. I’ve been there many years when we go right up to Christmas. There’s ten days between now and Christmas. I hope I don’t get in the way of your Christmas shopping, but this is the Nation’s business. National security is at stake. Act. Act “ – VP Joe Biden interview with Andrea Mitchell

Disrespecting the institution, Senator Kyl?

That’s the most hypocritical thing I’ve heard in a while.

Republicans have hamstrung the Senate with constant obstruction,

And you dare give Dems institutional instruction?

You yourself have been particularly obnoxious,

Making the Senate atmosphere particularly noxious.

Disrespecting Christianity?

Oh, God help us, the Humanity!

In reality, the War on Christmas is being lead

By you and your fellow Republicans instead.

The only thing you care about Christmas spirit

Is how you can politically comandeer it.

You’re the ones that would have been overjoyed

If on Christmas morn you succeeded in cutting off the unemployed.

You’re the ones blocking 9-11 first responder healthcare

They’re sick and dying due to their service, and you don’t care.

You’re the ones risking blotting the Christmas morning sun with a mushroom cloud

Because nuclear inspections are no longer allowed.

You’re the ones that don’t want young immigrant Americans to dream

Even though the DREAM Act was originally a GOP scheme.

You’re the ones that want gay servicemen and women fighting for our Nation

To have a Christmas present of insult and forced demobilization.

Christmas is about peace on earth and good will to men,

But you break that principle again and again.

Then again, you’re all for an extra-nice present

For America’s richest two per cent.

To the rest of us you give increased debt for many Christmases to come,

Which every respectable economist has said is dumb.

It’s like the story The Gift of the Magi, but in reverse.

Sorry Senator Kyl, but it’s your Christmas spirit that’s perverse.
