The Replacements

September 25th, 2012

Inspired by Paul Ryan’s gibe about the NFL replacement refs.

“Did you guys watch that Packers game last night? I mean, give me a break. It is time to get the real refs. And you know what? It reminds me of President Obama and the economy. If you can’t get it right, it’s time to get out.” – Paul Ryan yesterday in Ohio

Dear Paul:

I was shocked to hear you call Obama a replacement referee,

Given the recent performance of your own nominee.

Given Mitt’s unending gaffes, where do you get the gall,

President Obama and the Dems amateurs to call?

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised since you’re a doctrinaire right-winger,

But It’s funny you say that, since you’re running with a second-stringer.

All of the top-tier GOP primary candidates passed,

And all you were left with was the high school play cast.

Romney may have finished the primary on top,

But that’s only due to the weakness of the rest of the crop.

So yes, Paul, you’re right: what we need is a pro,

So re-elect Obama, and replace the Congressional Party of No.

Here’s Ed’s 9/25/12 report, including a clip of Paul Ryan’s “joke” (it’s at the 45 sec. mark). As Ed points out, it’s ironic that union-busters like Paul Ryan and Scott Walker are now suddenly pro-union when in comes to their beloved Packers. (I guess football is more important to them than education and public safety.)

Here’s a scene from the movie which inspired our title. In the movie version, the NFL hired replacement players instead of refs.
