The Real Victims (or: It Must Have Been Some Other Body)

January 12th, 2011

Inspired by Dangerous Right-Wing ‘Victimhood’  (Hidden Mysteries 1/10/11).

“After this shocking tragedy, I listened at first puzzled, then with concern, and now with sadness, to the irresponsible statements from people attempting to apportion blame for this terrible event.” — Sarah Palin video address to nation

“There isn’t any correlation. It’s like blaming Jodie Foster for the individual who shot Ronald Reagan… People need to go and point fingers. It’s unfortunate, but some people do. They have to find somebody to demonize.” – Tucson right-wing radio shock jock Jon Justice, who a few days before the shooting commented on his show that “we NEED bloodshed.”

Sheriff Clarence Dupnik is on the path here of attempting to expressly, personally associate me with this event… He hasn’t pointed out a single thing that I have said that would inspire such a heinous act.” – Rush Limbaugh

“The media progressives, Media Matters, and Washington blaming you, the American People, for the shooting now.” – Glenn Beck (or in other words, “they’re blaming me, which is the same as blaming you”)

“The irresponsible assignment of blame to me, Sarah Palin or the Tea Party movement by commentators and elected officials puts all who gather to redress grievances in danger.” – Sharron Angle, in response to statements that her “Second Amendment remedies” comment might

When Sarah says let’s all feel sorry for the real victim of this heinous attack,

She’s referring to liberals’ heinous attack.

When Jon “Justice” says people shouldn’t find “somebody” to demonize,

He means that the need to point fingers to anyone but him applies.

When Rush says Sheriff Dupnik hasn’t “pointed out a single thing”

It just proves that he spends all his time talking rather than listening.

(Like Lays potato chips, with Rush, it’s impossible to pick just one

Given all the violent rhetoric and incitement he’s done.)

When Glenn says that the “media is blaming you,”

He means blaming him, but he wants his listeners to feel victimized too.

Of course, it gets even stranger

When Sharron Angle says that criticizing her puts people in danger.

According to these jokers it would appear

That they’re the real victims here.

Usually, they’re the ones that vociferously condemn,

But now they’re upset people are criticizing them.

Usually, they’re the ones doing the attacking,

Unconcerned if evidence is lacking.

Yes, Sarah, some people think that your rhetorical incitement

Makes it and you deserving of social indictment.

Yes, Sharron, the majority of Americans agrees

That it’s not helpful to call for Second Amendment remedies.

Yes, Mr. Justice, it’s “unfortunate” and strange

That you’re the one being demonized for a change.

Yes Rush, this time the tables are turned,

And you’re the one that about evidence is concerned.

Yes Glenn, just because you and your listeners are unhinged

Doesn’t mean their rights are being infringed.

I understand that you’re all taken aback

By the supposed vehemence of your critics’ attack.

But deep down, you all know what you’ve done

(Poor babies–being criticized by others isn’t much fun).

You seek yourselves to distance and defend

(It’s not as much fun being on the receiving end).

Even when you’re not directly named,

You assume that you’re the one that’s being blamed.

That reaction is called a guilty conscience,

Which your lack of shame usually prevents.

All the attacks on you are so unfair–

How novel that you suddenly about fairness care.

Rush Limbaugh disagrees with Sarah Palin. She’s not the victim, he is. Here’s a clip of him talking about that on his radio show (plus Sheriff Dupnik talking about his views) 1/11/11 on Hardball.
