Inspired by GOP rejects rape exception in platform (Politico 8/21/12) and Republican Party Makes No Abortion Exception For Rape, Incest (Buzzfeed8/21/12).
“I have never studied the art of paying compliments to women; but I must say that if all that has been said by orators and poets since the creation of the world in praise of women were applied to the women of America, it would not do them justice for their conduct during this war. I will close by saying, God bless the women of America!” – Abraham Lincoln
“Faithful to the ‘self-evident’ truths enshrined in the Declaration ofIndependence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children.” — Republican Party Platform
“It’s so much bigger than Missouri.” — Ed Rendell today on Morning Joe
The Republican Party wants to get Todd Akin out of the picture,
But that may prove difficult (viz. the above picture).
Though his brethren now deny they Todd every knew,
Most of them share his radical view.
And though Akin has been roundly denounced by the GOP chiefs,
The Party Platform has formally enshrined his beliefs.
So given the GOP’s feminine disdain,
Win or lose, Akin’s policies will remain.
How said that what once was the Party of Lincoln
Has now become the Party of Akin.
Here’s Morning Joe’s 8/22/12 panel discussion, including Akin’s “apology” and discussion of the party platform (that’s at the end of the first clip), followed by further discussion of the party platform (and the increased scrutiny of it) on Now.
