Temporary Leave

July 12th, 2012

Inspired by Mitt Romney’s explanation that he was on temporary leave during the worst Bain outsourcing, so the things Bain did are not his fault. He says President Obama should apologize for any suggestions to the contrary.

Mitt’s explanation about Bain (paraphrased): “I was on temporary leave from Bain from 1999 to 2002. Therefore, I’m not responsible for anything that happened during that period.”

What Mitt would have said if he’d been elected in 2008: “I was on temporary leave from the Presidency from 2009 through 2012. Therefore, I’m not responsible for anything that happened during that period.”

“I wasn’t there at the time,” Mitt repeatedly says.

Would he say the same thing as Pres?

If Mitt had been in President Obama’s shoes

Would he a similar rationalization try to use?

Would Mitt now be making the claim

That he’s not for the recession to blame?

Here’s Ed’s7/12/12 report. During the 3 years Mitt now claims he had nothing to do with Bain, he was still the (1) Chairman, (2) CEO, (3) President of the company, and (4) sole owner. He also still (5) signed SEC documents, (6) collected a substantial paycheck, and (7) was listed in company materials as being on part-time, temporary leave but still involved in personnel and investment decisions. Does that sound like having “no connection” to Bain to you?
