Tea Party Terrorists (or: We Want the World and We Want It Now)

April 6th, 2011

“There’s a radical element here, and I’ll say it without any prejudice: radical. Basically, get rid of Obama’s healthcare bill which he spent two years fighting and the Democrats spent 100 years trying to get through. Basically abolishing Medicare and the way it was created back in the Sixties. Getting rid of any funding for birth control, basically. No climate change… It seems like they have said ‘OK, we’re in power now, and we’re going to do everything we ever promised to do.” – Chris Matthews

“If you really wanta deal you wouldn’t be throwing everything in like the kitchen sink. If Mike Pence really wanted a deal, he wouldn’t be talking about birth control. If Mike Pence really wanted a deal, the Speaker wouldn’t be talking about in this case climate change. They’re making all kinds of add-ons to this discussion (riders, they call it) to make it harder a deal to make. If they wanted a deal, they wouldn’t be throwing all this social stuff in.” — Chris again

“We want the world, and we want it now.” – Jim Morrison

Terrorists are fanatical in their perspectives–

They are willing to do anything to meet their objectives.

Logic seldom (if ever) in their thinking applies.

They will never, ever compromise.

Fanaticism blinds them to reality,

And forget about practicality.

They don’t care if innocents suffer and die at their hands.

In pursuit of their long laundry list of demands.

Release all terrorist prisoners everywhere.

Impossible to do? They don’t care.

MakeIsraelwithdraw from occupied lands,

Even thoughIsraeldoesn’t obey US commands.

Give us a plane and a few billion,

Or we’ll kill the hostage (an innocent civilian).

Sound familiar? It just might,

Because these same terrorist tactics are now used by the right.

The Republican Right shares that same fanatical zeal

That makes it almost impossible to make a deal.

They believe the end justifies the means,

Regardless of how much carnage that means.

We already know they’re always willing

To resort to hostage taking and killing.

But now, they’ve taken things to a new level

Of fanatical opposition to the Democrat Devil.

Want a government budget?

They begrudge it.

Don’t want more taxes for the working and middle class?

They you have to tax cuts for the wealthy pass.

(In fact, we have cut taxes even more,

Even though we never paid for the tax cuts from before.)

Eliminate unions and their ability to bargain collectively

And represent workers effectively.

Get rid of all the social programs we always opposed;

Enact every pet GOP policy ever proposed.

Want continued unemployment compensation?

Then stop gay marriage (an abomination).

People need Obamacare?

Repeal it anyway, I don’t care.

Reinstate Don’t Ask Don’t Tell

(Who cares if it never worked well).

Raise the debt ceiling?

Unappealing.

Planned Parenthood?

No good.

Defund public TV;

Eliminate EPA’s climate responsibility.

Enact a balanced budget amendment

Congress’s power of the purse to circumvent.

Why not just demand President Obama and all Dems resign

And pass an amendment, Republican majority in the Constitution to enshrine?

They want the world, and they want it now.

Of course if they win, they might destroy it anyhow.

There’s not much time, and it won’t be long

Until we reach the end of the song.

Will they shut everything down if they don’t win the fight?

If they don’t get what they want, will they turn out the light?

Here’s your theme music, When the Music’s Over, by The Doors, live in Copenhagen in 1968. Yes, Jim Morrison comes across as a little nuts, but then he was doing a lot of drugs. What’s the Republicans’ excuse?
