Tan-gelo Tax (or: Why Prince John of Orange Hates the Healthcare Bill)

May 6th, 2010

Inspired by Obama delivers remarks at White House Correspondents Dinner (Washington Post 5/01/11).

“Dana, Do you think that the ‘10 percent tax on indoor tanning services that use ultraviolet lamps goes into effect on July 1’ was a direct shot at House Minority Leader Boehner?” Loompaland question to Dana Milbank

“I do, as I have written before.  And I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Speaker Pelosi was instrumental in killing the ‘Botax,’ the tax on Botox treatments, which was replaced by the tanning tax.” – Dana

“This next provision is called the Jersey Shore-Up. It reads: ‘The following individuals shall be excluded from the indoor tanning tax within this bill: Snooki, J-WOWW, the Situation, and House Minority Leader John Boehner.’” – President Obama at White House Correspondents Dinner

Republicans don’t like taxes, especially on themselves and their friends,

But there’s one tax in particular that the leadership into conniptions sends.

It’s the tax on indoor tanning,

Which like all taxes, they’re in favor of banning.

It’s only 10%, but that adds up.

But thankfully, Boehner won’t have to give indoor tanning up.

Perhaps Boehner’s further opposition to preempt,

The President has issued a ruling that he’ll be exempt.

To do otherwise just wouldn’t be right–

Poor John would have to go back to being white.

(Snooki and the rest of the Jersey Shore are exempt also,

So they too can keep maintaining their bright orange glow.)

Here’s President Obama’s speech at the White House correspondents dinner. (The announcement of Boehner’s exemption from the Tangelo Tax is at the 11” mark.)

Here’s Prince John of Orange a few days ago on the House floor railing about the many problems with healthcare and financial reform. He doesn’t mention the tanning tax, but you can tell he’s upset about it.
