Take Your Time

September 30th, 2012

A follow-up to Running (from) the Numbers, inspired by Paul Ryan’s appearance this morning on Fox News.

“You haven’t given me the math.” – Fox News Chris Wallace trying to get details from Paul Ryan about Romney’s tax plan
“Well, I don’t have the time. It would take me too long to go through all the math. I mean, it would take me a really long time because there are just so many numbers, and it’s so complicated. I wouldn’t want to bore you by going on and on about that, and did I tell you there are so many numbers that it would take me a long time? Because it would; it would take such a long time that we just don’t have time to do it, and by that I mean a really long time. But doesn’t that prove that I’m right, because there are just so many numbers?” – Paul Ryan (paraphrased)

Giving actual numbers would take far too long,

So Paul Ryan is singing the same old song

Trying to move the conversation along

To attacking Obama, which makes him feel strong.

(Too bad the studies Paul cites all prove he’s wrong.)

Here’s Rep. Ryan today on Fox. The 5 studies he refers to attempt to show that the Romney-Ryan tax plan is mathematically possible, which is does by making economically unlikely and politically impossible assumptions. They were the Romney-Ryan campaign’s attempt to counter the non-partisan Tax Policy Center report that the only way to make Romney’s tax plan revenue-neutral would be to eliminate deductions that would cause middle-class taxes to increase. Instead of refuting that, Romney’s 5 studies actually further prove it.

Here’s your theme song, Take Your Time by Al Green.
