Dedication
Sunday, October 16th, 2011
Inspired by the dedication today of the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial.
I went to the Stone of Hope’s dedication today
To hear what Obama about Dr. King had to say.
My teenage daughters didn’t care,
But I thought it important to be there.
Plus, it would let me see President Obama once more.
(I’ve only seen him in person twice before).
But today wasn’t about Obama… or maybe it was, in part,
Since King’s accomplishments in Obama’s played a part.
What a difference one man can make
If he’s willing, a stance to take.
All it takes is dedication,
And a somewhat open-minded nation.
By riding forth, banners unfurled,
One man can indeed change the world.
Dr. King did it, and I think Obama will too,
If he’s just given a chance to.

Here’s your theme music for today, U2’s In the Name of Love, a theme which President Obama discussed at length today.
Here’s President Obama’s speech.
