Grayson’s Place

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

As reported in “War of Words Over Healthcare Cools” (Washington Post 10/03/09) and “GOP backing off scolding Democrat over rhetoric” (Washington Post 10/06/09), Republicans and Fox News have been up in arms about Rep. Grayson’s allegedly over-the-top comment that the Republican healthcare plan is “don’t get sick,” and if you do, “die quickly” (see video clip below). On the top-ten list of uncivil comments, Grayson’s doesn’t even make the list. Even if one allows it to be shoe-horned into the #10 position, then the top 9 spots are all Republicans. If this uproar doesn’t smack of hypocrisy, I don’t know what does.

Republicans are making so much noise,

Crying like a bully stole their toys.

Up in arms because Rep. Grayson (D-FL) hurt their feelings.

Their complaints are most revealing.

Grayson said that if you’re sickly

The Republican plan is that you should die quickly.

I don’t see why that’s so bad

And why Republicans should be so mad.

For Republicans raising their hue and cry

This is the same as Joe Wilson’s “You lie!”

Does what Grayson said seem that bad to you?

Not to me, since what Grayson said is true.

Republicans pretend to be taken aback–

They’ve been waiting for a chance to counter-attack,

To claim that they’ve been horribly maligned,

And this is the first thing they could find.

As bad as Joe Wilson – you’ve got to be kidding!

But I guess where you stand depends on where you’re sitting.

For the folks on the right side of the aisle

This gives them a chance to spew their bile.

So much drama, such false dismay–

Republicans say things like that every day.

Yeah, you’d better back off — your resolution in no way fits

(not so Grayson calling you knuckle-dragging Neanderthal hypocrites).

Jesus (whom you claim to follow) told us what to do

In Luke 6 verses 41-42:

Before the speck in your neighbor’s eye makes you groan

Hypocrite, first remove the log from your own.
