Resuming Thoughtful Consideration
Sunday, January 16th, 2011
A follow-up to One More Week, inspired by House set to vote on healthcare repeal (Reuters via Yahoo News 1/14/11), A civil and honest health-care discussion, and GOP lacks clear health-care plan (Washington Post 1/16/11).
Another week’s delay would have been nice,
But the House GOP didn’t take my advice.
The previously postponed healthcare repeal vote
Has been rescheduled for Wednesday (viz. Cantor’s above quote).
The Post’s E.J. Dionne agreed with me,
But unfortuantely not the House GOP.
They’ve decided with their repeal vote to move ahead,
Though Rep. Giffords is still hospitalized with a bullet in her head.
Seven hours has been set aside for “thoughtful” debate.
Does that mean that this time they’ll incite less hate?
Cantor’s spokesman implied that the vote was Obama’s idea,
And that deeming the mood “thoughtful” would provide a panacea.
How can “thoughtfull consideration” resume when it never before applied
(At least not on the GOP side).
I’m afraid that the chance for civility is poor
If “thoughtful consideration” is what they think they were doing before.
But John and Eric, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt:
Restore civility? Let’s see if you have the clout.
