Bad News Newt (or: Yeah, He’d Make a Good President)
Friday, June 10th, 2011
Inspired by Gingrich campaign loses top officials: At least 16 aides resign en masse (Washington Post6/10/11).
“Newt Gingrich’s entire campaign staff just resigned! That is the most humiliating thing to happen to a politician since now!” — God
“I am committed to running the substantive, solutions-oriented campaign I set out to run earlier this spring.” – Newt
As God so ably summarized in his tweet,
Newt’s campaign staffers are voting with their feet.
Newt’s top aides are abandoning ship,
Leaving his campaign at a phenomenal clip.
The trigger was Newt’s decision to take a two-week Greek cruise
Instead of staying home to deal with all the other bad news.
Or maybe the problem was that he came back
And his staff feared he’d make another self-destructive wisecrack.
Newt’s never been known for his management skills
Or the personal loyalty which his kindness instills.
But now even Rick Tyler, he of the heroic accolade
Has his former idiosyncratic idol betrayed.
Could anything deepen the depths to which Newt has sunk?
(I suppose he could start tweeting pictures of his junk.)

Here’s Rachel’s 6/10/11 report on Newt’s implosion, and the implications for a Rick Perry presidential campaign. One (minor) correction, Rachel: Spongebob does not live with Patrick– they’re neighbors.
