It’s The Great Deception, Scott Brown
Thursday, January 21st, 2010
“In Senator-elect Brown, we have an irresponsible, homophobic, racist, reactionary, sexist, ex-nude model teabagging supporter of violence against women and against politicians with whom he disagrees.” — Keith Olbermann (Countdown 1/20/10)
Inspired by Kennedy’s Son: Voters Are ‘Wanting Blood’ (Politico 1/19/10) and the videos below.

Scott Brown has won the Massachusetts special election
Leaving Republicans with a giant erection.
(Jon Stewart seems to have noticed their excitement,
Which he credits largely to Fox’s incitement.)
I don’t mind so much that Brown posed newd
(Though that’s kind of thing Republicans would normally think crude).
I don’t mind that he drives an old truck
(Though the gas mileage must suck).
But I can’t say I like that he peddles that crock
About Obama being born out of wedlock,
Or that he didn’t bother to rebut
The guy who suggested “shoving a curling iron” up Coakley’s butt.
I also didn’t like his anti-gay positions
(They’re surprising considering his lack of inhibitions),
Nor do I like his affirmation
That he’ll be the 41st vote against healthcare legislation.
In spite of his giddy Republican reception,
He seems to have been elected based on a giant deception.
Mass. Voters unhappy with the way things are
Have turned him into the GOP superstar.
It didn’t hurt that Brown was photogenic,
And the wave of discontent he rode was authentic.
But I do think voters were deceived about the cause of their ills,
And that certainly wasn’t the two healthcare bills.
It’s also evidence of intent to misinform
That the vote’s interpreted as opposition to healthcare reform.
Mass. voters enjoy the basically same system Dems have proposed,
So it’s unlikely that they to the idea are opposed.
It didn’t help that Coakley made all those faux pas,
Which gave otherwise Dem voters considerable pause.
It might have been a closer campaign
If she shaking hands at Fenway didn’t disdain.
But could Brown’s teabagger supporters also be guilty of self deception
If it turns out Brown’s far rightness is a misperception?
That would leave them sorely disappointed
With their savior newly anointed.
Yes, the election result stinks,
But hopefully he won’t be as bad as Keith thinks.

Here are Keith Olbermann’s comments on 1/18/10 and 1/19/10 (Keith seems not to like Scott Brown).
Here’s a scene from the cartoon classic for which this post was named. Like the reports above, it offers timeless commentary on the power of self deception.
