Dream On, President Rand Paul

Thursday, January 24th, 2013

A follow-up to All Due Respect, inspired by Sen. Rand Paul‘s fantasy world, and Ron Reagan‘s comment thereon (and don’t miss my customized theme song lyrics at the end).

“I’m glad that you’re accepting responsibility. I think that ultimately with your leaving you accept the culpability for the worst tragedy since 9-11, and I really mean that. Had I been president at the time, and I found that you did not read the cables from Benghazi, you did not read the cables from Ambassador Stevens, I would have relieved you of your post. I think it’s inexcusable.”  – Rand Paul at Benghazi Senate hearing yesterday

“When Rand Paul said that if he were President he would have fired Hillary Clinton, I think everybody in the country in unison, you could almost hear them saying ‘President Rand Paul? Oh dream on!’” — Ron Reagan today on Hardball

Dear Senator Paul:

I get that every time when you look in the mirror

You say to yourself that the White House is nearer.

Sadly, your view of the universe is twisted:

That possibility will never and never has existed.

It’s not uncommon for Senators to suffer this delusion,

But in your case it’s even more of an illusion.

You faced off against Sec. State Clinton and had the unmitigated gall

To publicly posit a President Rand Paul.

So Dream On, and tell yourself that dream may come true:

I predict it will, for one of you.

Here’s Hardball’s 1/24/12 panel discussion. Sen. Paul’s quote is at the 6″25 mark; Ron’s quote is as the 7″30 mark, which he follows with his even more bizarre question about transfer of weapons from Libya to Turkey. I was also highly amused by Sean Hannity’s “as well as I know the Clintons” comment at the 8”05 mark. And Chris: I loved your “Day of the Jackals” reference. So true.

Here’s your theme music, Dream On by Arrowsmith (see also my customized lyrics below). And Senator Paul: There is one thing that I agree with you about. I don’t think you belong in the Senate either.

Dream On

Dream On, President Rand Paul

Every time when I look in the mirror Every time when you look in the mirror
All these lines on my face getting clearer And say to yourself that the White House is nearer
The past is gone That chance is gone
It went by, like dusk to dawn It went by, like dusk to dawn
Isn’t that the way Isn’t that the way
Everybody’s got the dues in life to pay Everybody’s got the dues in life to pay

I know nobody knows I know nobody knows
Where it comes and where it goes Where it comes and where it goes
I know it’s everybody sin I know it’s everybody sin
You got to lose to know how to win You got to lose to know how to win

Half my life Half your life
Is books written pages Is books written pages
Live and learn from fools and Live and learn from fellow fools but
From sages Not sages
You know it’s true, oh We know it’s true, oh
All these things you do come back to you. All these things you do come back to you.

Sing with me, sing for the years Sing with me, sing for the years
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears
Sing with me, just for today Sing with me, just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good lord will take you away Maybe tomorrow, the voters will take you away

Yeah, sing with me, sing for the year Yeah, sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me, just for today Sing with me, just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away Maybe tomorrow, the voters will take you away

Dream on Dream on
Dream on Dream on
Dream on Dream on
Dream until your dreams come true Dream until your dreams come true
Dream on Dream on
Dream on Dream on
Dream on Dream on
Dream until your dreams come true Dream until your dreams come true
Dream on Dream on
Dream on Dream on
Dream on Dream on
Dream on Dream on
Dream on Dream on
Dream on Dream on
Dream on Dream on

Sing with me, sing for the year Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me, just for today Sing with me, just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away Maybe tomorrow, the voters will take you away
Sing with me, sing for the year Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me, just for today Sing with me, just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away. America will never make you President anyway.
