Cold, Dead Hands

Thursday, January 10th, 2013

A follow-up to Protecting the First Amendment, inspired by the NRA’s long-time “cold dead hands” slogan and it’s modern-day followers.

“I’ll give you my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead hands”  — then-NRA President Charleston Heston

“1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms! It doesn’t matter how many lemmings you get out on the street begging for them to have their guns taken! We will not relinquish them! Do you understand?” – Alex Jones yesterday on , screaming

“We may have to shed blood every couple hundred years to preserve our freedoms.” — former Congressman Joe Walsh earlier today

“Vice President Biden is asking the president to bypass Congress and use executive privilege, executive order to ban assault rifles and to impose stricter gun control. F*ck that. I’m telling you that if that happens, it’s going to spark a civil war, and I’ll be glad to fire the first shot. I’m not putting up with it. You shouldn’t put up with it. And I need all you patriots to start thinking about what you’re going to do, load your damn mags, make sure your rifle’s clean, pack a backpack with some food in it and get ready to fight. I’m not fucking putting up with this. I’m not letting my country be ruled by a dictator. I’m not letting anybody take my guns! If it goes one inch further, I’m going to start killing people.” –ex-SWAT officer and current gun aficionado James Yeager

“I don’t condone anybody doing anything rash. I don’t condone anybody committing any kind of felonies up to and including aggravated assaults or murders, unless it’s necessary. Right now it is not necessary. And I understand that my video was very volatile. You have no idea how many people that send me emails and text and calling me and were like right on. My shit’s clean, my bag’s packed. You tell me when and where. You have no idea how quickly I accidentally assembled an army. I assure you a quite formidable army. But now’s not the time. It’s now time yet. It is time to get ready. Start working out. Start stretching. Start practicing. Start talking with your friends; coordinating on a local basis. I don’t really know what to say to do next. I have a wait and see attitude about the whole thing. But I stand fast with my message. I have drawn my line in the sand. Not one more inch.” – Yeager’s follow-up explanatory video (although it sounds like he does condone rash action)

“Terrorism: The use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes.” – Dictionary.com

“Cold, dead hands”

Is the NRA’s

Most beloved

Favorite phrase.

It perfectly describes

Their core conviction:

Oppose even the slightest

Firearm restriction.

But the NRA’s

Intense opposition

Isn’t just

A policy position.

It’s not just a motto,

Don’t forget:

“Cold dead hands”

Is a threat.

“Don’t take my gun,

‘Cause if you try

You have to kill me,

Or die.”

That’s not American.

It’s not democracy.

It’s a paramilitary coup

To establish a gunocracy.

Conservatism’s supposed to be

About respecting authority,

But this is dictatorial rule

By an armed minority.

Does the Second Amendment

Give them the right

To decide when they’ll vote

And when they’ll fight?

If restricting assault rifles

Is the popular will,

Does that give those who disagree

The right to kill?

Sure, they’ll use

Their political pull,

But if they don’t get their way

Will they follow majority rule?

The motto “cold dead hands”

Is saying they won’t.

We must follow the laws,

But they don’t.

“Heads I win,

Tails you lose.

Either that or I shoot you:

You choose.”

That’s using violence and threats

In place of law and reason.

It’s called terrorism.

It’s called treason.

Responsible gun owners,

It’s time to decide:

Are you on

These people’s side?

Here’s then NRA-Pres. Charleston Heston at the 129th NRA convention in 2000.

Here’s Alex Jones’ rant 1/07/12 on Piers Morgan. Jones is the perfect spokesman for the “cold dead hands” philosophy of intimidation, but by no means the only one…

Here’s another example: gun “owner” James Yeager, discussed briefly on The Ed Show tonight. Here’s a video he posted below (the original—he later took this down and posted a revised version with the final part about killing taken out), followed by his “clarification” (just as bad).

Here’s an earlier (Jan. 3) Yeager video. I came across this after writing my piece above, but it’s actually the perfect illustration of what I was saying, and in some ways even more chilling than his screaming rants.
