Sex, Lies, and Videotape

Inspired by James O’Keefe Arrested In Mary Landrieu Phone Scheme, 3 Others Also Charged (Huffington Post 1/26/10), James O’Keefe, Accomplices Plead Guilty In Landrieu Break-In, Get Probation, Community Service, Light Fines (Huffington Post 5/26/10), and James O’Keefe On Landrieu Office Break-In: ‘I’d Do It Again’ (Huffington Post 6/01/10). As reported by Breaking News: ACORN Is Not Evil (Change.org 1/08/10) and Raw ACORN tapes show Fox News complicit in smearing innocent employees (Reddit 4/06/10), ACORN has now been cleared of all wrongdoing, it having been revealed that O’Keefe’s ACORN videos were “so heavily edited as to be misleading.” As Rachel reports (watch the video below), the only ones that actually did break the law in conjunction with the ACORN scandal were… “conservative” activists O’Keefe and Hannah Giles, for illegal wiretapping. (Where’s the coverage on that, Fox News?) Alas, as reported by House votes to end federal funding of ACORN (Washington Post 9/17/09), ACORN losing funding from big corporations (Washington Post 10/03/09), ACORN reportedly on verge of bankruptcy (Washington Post 3/21/10), and ACORN closing its doors for good (WashingtonPost.com 3/23/10), that revelation comes too late.

“A lot of these reporters just flat out, I think, slandered me. Immediately off the gun, they jumped the gun on this story. We’re still waiting for corrections on dozens of newspapers, mainstream media newspapers… It’s journalism malpractice what they’ve done on this story, and it’s inexcusable… They jumped the gun. They tried to destroy me with all kinds of fabrications, willingly fabricating things… These people need to print corrections immediately.” – James O’Keefe on Sean Hannity (watch the video below)

The videos were damning – it seemed an irrefutable case.

Soon, people were condemning ACORN all over the place.

Only as it turns, the videos were fakes,

But what the heck: you have to be willing to do what it takes.

In the far right-wing view, the ends justify the means.

In the battle between Good and Evil, there are no in-betweens.

Lie, break the law, manipulate, and defame—

It’s all part of the “conservative” game.

Bringing ACORN down was just the beginning–

There are more fake stories out there that require ginning.

The pimp-playing wonder boy

Seems intent, more people to destroy.

The right’s favorite agent provocateur

Has most recently targeted a US Senator.

Little Jimmy has plead guilty to breaking and entering

(He must from G. Gordon Liddy have received his mentoring).

Can you imagine the “conservative” uproar if a liberal activist did something like that?

The right wing would crucify him in 10 seconds flat.

Yet law-and-order bastion Sean Hannity meekly proclaims

It’s good Jimmy will use different tactics next time (or so he claims).

(Of course, Jimmy doesn’t say that those tactics will be lawful.

Maybe you like him, Sean, but I think he’s just awful.)

I thought the purpose of “conservatives” is to conserve.

I guess not, but did O’Keefe and his cronies get what they deserve?

Is their slap on the wrist adequate

To convince them their destructive activities to quit?

Somehow, I don’t think so (a leopard doesn’t change its spots).

I’m sure Jimmy’s already busy hatching his next round of plots.

It’s too late for ACORN (they’re already shut down),

But what about all the others that will be harmed by this clown?

“Fabricating things,” you say, Little Jim?

(I guess he doesn’t like it as much when it happens to him.)

And will you now have to change your company’s name?

Veritas means truth, and what you do is not quite the same.

I hope that next time (if there is one), the judge isn’t so lenient

With your illegal efforts, the truth to misrepresent.
