Small-Minded

August 16th, 2012

Inspired by Mitt Romney’s belief that 63% of Americans are small-minded.

“Given the challenges that America faces—23 million people out of work, Iran about to become nuclear, one out of six Americans in poverty—the fascination with taxes I paid I find to be very small-minded, compared to the broad issues that we face.” — Mitt Romney today in South Carolina

To: The 63% of Americans who believe I should release my tax returns

From: Mitt Romney

This is a complex issue, so I hope you don’t mind,

Given that all 63% of you have such a small mind.

I know it’s hard to understand why I should pay 13% (or less),

So I’ll use simple language, the issue to address.

I have a net worth that’s at least ten thousand times yours

(Probably more, since that my hidden assets and trust funds ignores).

That means I must be at least ten thousand times as smart,

Which is what sets me and other point-one-percenters apart.

I’m also ten thousand times as hard-working and loved by God,

Compared to the average American clod.

That’s why the tax code rewards me with a lower rate.

Isn’t being a wealthy Job Creator great!

So while you may not be able to grasp it with your tiny mind,

Letting me pay low taxes is how our tax system’s designed.
