Inspired by Rep. Todd Akin’s comments about the female body. Did he forget about the female body politic?
“If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.” — Rep. Todd Akin (R-MS) comment aired yesterday on St. Louis TV
Todd Akin is continuing his forcible attempt
To gain a new office from which to show women contempt.
He’s now trying himself into the Senate to force
(With the support of the Family Research Council, of course).
The Republican Establishment wants him to pull out,
But quitting is not what Mr. Akin’s about.
For Akin, no means yes, so he’s pushing ahead,
Though his support may now be less widespread.
But the attempt to abort Akin’s campaign before the legal deadline
Masks the strength of the anti-reproductive right’s hard line.
There are really thousands of little Akins throughout the GOP:
They just don’t say what they think out loud on TV.
They surge towards their goal in the unending crusade
Of finally repealing Roe v. Wade.
But woman of Missouri, especially those on the fence:
Our democracy provides you with a natural defense.
Only you can prevent Akin from in the Senate implanting
And a far more worthy Senator supplanting.
What’s that natural defense? It’s called a vote.
And, like Rep. Akin says in the quote:
The female body politic has ways to shut that thing down.
So Rep. Akin: prepare for a showdown.
Here’s ABC’s report on Rep. Akin’s comment.
Here’s The Ed Show’s 8/21/12 report on Akin’s refusal to drop out of the race, including (Ezra Klein is subbing for Ed).
If you’re from Missouri(or nearby), click here to volunteer for Sen. McCaskill’s campaign to keep her Senate seat (if you’re not, you can still donate). And remember, there are 240 more Todd Akin’s in the House, and 47 in the Senate, and two Todd Akin’s on the GOP presidential ticket, so you WILL have a chance to vote against at least one of them, no matter where you’re from.
