Sanctum Santorum
December 5th, 2010
Inspired by Santorum ‘starting anew’ for 2012 (Allentown Morning Call 12/05/10).
“When you’re dealing with 13 million people and they can’t meet you and don’t know who you are, then what the perception is: Rick Santorum is the really nasty, intolerant, mean guy. I said dumb things that are easy to create caricatures that are not complimentary, and I did some dumb things. I’m not blaming anybody. It’s all on me.” – Rick Santorum
Rick Santorum is thinking of throwing his hat into the ring.
For Democrats, that might be a very good thing.
I’m from PA, so Santorum used to be my Senator,
Until he was thrown out of office and became the Ethics and Public Policy Center’s progenitor.
Santorum’s always exuded a “holier than thou” vibe
As he seeks society’s ills to proscribe.
Those ills include women’s rights, birth control, and gays,
As Santorum seeks to enact into law the Religious Right craze.
You’re right, Rick, that it’s all on you,
But that doesn’t mean the perception’s not right too.

NB: “Sanctum Sanctorum” means Holy of Holies, in Judaism the holiest part of the Temple in Jerusalem where the Ark of the Covenant was kept, and in Catholocism (Rick’s faith) to the Holy Sacrament of Communion. Sanctum Santorum, on the other hand, is defined as that self-declared state of holier-than-thou-ness by which one assumes the right to judge others, and impose one’s on relgious and moral views on them, as in the expressions “Holy Santorum!” and “Do you think your Santorum don’t stink?” Appopriate, given Santorum’s Google problem, no?
