Rising Tides of Blood

July 28th, 2010

Inspired by The danger of political intolerance (SFGate 7/25/10), Glenn Beck’s Incendiary Angst Is Dangerously Close to Having a Body Count (Huffington Post 7/27/10), and What if Byron Williams had been a teetotaler? (The Guardian 7/28/10).

“To the day I die, I am going to be a progressive hunter.
“[Y]ou will have to shoot me in the forehead before … I acquiesce and be silent.”
“[Y]ou can shoot me in the head … but there will be 10 others that line up.”
“There is a coup going on. There is a stealing of America.”
“Your republic is over.”
— just a small sample of Glenn Beck’s incendiary rhetoric

“Go on, illustrious pair! Your great example
Shall teach your youth to scorn the sordid world
And set their hearts on things of real worth.
While yet thy tide of blood runs high,
To God thy future life devote;
Thy early vigour all apply,
His glorious service to promote.”
– High Priest in Handel’s opera Saul (lots of conspiracy in here too)

The Lunatic Fringe’s angry prophet

Is attacking a small liberal-leaning non-profit.

Glenn Beck believes that the Tides Foundation

Is a major threat to our once free nation.

Tides only has a staff of 32.

Who would have thought such a small group such damage could do.

According to Glenn, Tides is the Central Committee

Of a Marxist/socialist/Nazi plot to destroy our democracy.

Noone would know this, if not for Glenn.

He’s attacked Tides on air again and again.

It’s staffed by “thugs” and “bullies” involved in “the nasty of the nastiest”

To destroy the country with which we’ve been blessed.

What is this nasty thugish behavior Tides is involved in?

They fund educational materials to indoctrinate our children.

Glenn seemed to particularly hate the Tides-funded Story of Stuff:

They came out with a movie, as if the book weren’t bad enough.

Glenn makes all these claims without any evidence

(As usual, when lacking facts, he invents).

He doesn’t say how Tides will do the things of which he accuses,

He just repeats the long list of Tides’ supposed abuses.

One look at their website should make it clear

That Glenn is completely justified in mongering fear.

Half of the page is taken up by solicitations

For Gulf Coast oil disaster relief donations.

Tides 32 employees are creating a “mass organization to seize power.”

(Where when you need him is our savior, Jack Bauer?)

How a non-profit with 32 employees could seize power is beyond me,

But maybe I’d understand if I watched Glenn regularly.

Byron Williams, in contrrast, was one of Glenn’s regular viewers,

And was inspired by Glenn’s revelations to kill these evil-doers.

He strapped on his body armor and packed up

A 9mm, shotgun, rifle, and armor-piercing ammo into his pick-up.

Byron set out for San Fran, that den of liberal iniquity

(Only progressives and gays live in that God-forsaken city).

He planned to wipe Tides out in an act of premeditated assassination

(A small price to pay to save our great Nation).

While there, he also planned to wipe out the local ACLU,

Which based on their history of evil seemed like a reasonable thing to do.

Byron thought his act would spark a political revolution of people following his lead,

Who like him the words of their Master unquestionably heed.

“Kill them all,” the ex-slave said,

Then killed and killed until all the oppressors were dead.

Did Byron watch Spartacus: Blood and Sand after the Glenn Beck show

Before he packed up his truck, on his holy mission to go?

Maybe, but he also appears to have had at least one drink

(What would have happened without which I hate to think).

Byron was soon driving drunk and out of control

And was pulled over by the CA Highway Patrol.

He opened fire and wounded two patrolmen,

And kept firing until wounded and brought down then.

Byron Williams thus adds his name to the list

Of those willing to use violence, government tyranny to resist.

Glenn, your show is an inspiration

For those not in need of agitation.

Stop now, before the rising tides becomes a flood.

Stop now, before the rising tides are soaked with blood.

Here’s your theme music, Tides of Blood by Into Etermity. The unfortunately appropriate lyrics, hard to understand in the song, are reproduced below.

Tides of Blood by Into Etermity

Unrelenting screams are deafened

Running away from this unknown pain

Barriers of reality

Scour the black for answers to

Questions unknown

Eyes awake it seems

This nightmare’s ending

Clutching your chest

Wipe the sweat from your brow

There will be blood before the end

The tides of blood consume you

Your life is slowly taken

Fate lies the path before you

Premonitions of death flash before me

Turning away from this reverie

Rising tides flooding over me

Finding strength in solitude

Never-ending

Eyes awake

This nightmare’s never ending

Clutching my chest

The pain begins

There will be blood before the end

The tides of blood consume you

Your life is slowly taken

Fate lies the path before you

Eyes awake

The blackness is surrounding

Grasping for strength

Face this dark certainty

There will be blood before the end

The tides of blood consume you

Your life is slowly taken

Fate lies the path before you
