New Orleans Musical Artists

This list of New Orlean’s musical artists is compiled from a variety of sources (Wikipedia, music genre websites, New Orleans websites, etc.) and is meant to be as exhaustive as possible, including both artists who were born and/or raised in New Orleans and then went elsewhere, and those who were born and/or raised elsewhere but then relocated to New Orleans. I’ve also included individuals and bands from other parts of Louisiana, since these are part of and/or strongly influenced by New Orlean’s musical tradition.

Where and individual or group is primarily associated with another area (e.g., Lester Young’s and Kansas City jazz) but also has a strong New Orleans connection (he was born and spent most of his child there), I have opted for inclusiveness. Please suggest additions if you feel I’ve missed anyone (or if you feel strongly that someone has been mistakenly included). The list also includes links to sample and purchase the featured artist’s music, for which I get a (very) small advertising kickback to help cover my website costs (you of course don’t pay any more).

The list is alphabetical by first or group name (that’s so people who performed both individually and with one or more groups show up sequentially, e.g., Louis Armstrong). Group names are shown without the “The”.
