Quit Makin’ Stuff Up

November 7th, 2010

Inspired by Rachel’s report on Fox’s latest gross misrepresentation of reality.

“And first, some straight talk for some, just some in the media because another right protected for all of us is freedom of the press, and you all have such important jobs reporting facts and informing the electorate, and exerting power to influence. You represent what could and should be a respected honest profession that could and should be the cornerstone of our democracy. Democracy depends on you, and that is why, that’s why our troops are willing to die for you. So, how ’bout in honor of the American soldier, ya quit makin’ things up.” – Sarah Palin farewell address

“We’re just reporting what’s in the news,” you intone.

Haven’t you ever heard of a telephone?

Verification is what real journalists do.

Didn’t that ever occur to you?

Why is it that this kind of thing at Fox persists?

Could it be you’re not even trying to be journalists?

Remember when you worked yourself up into such a lather

In 2004 about Dan Rather?

For a much lesser error you demanded his head,

But now the shoe’s on the other foot instead.

(Since Fox is so keen on responsibility and blame assigning,

I guess that Roger Ailes will be resigning.)

Like your commentator and Queen herself brought up,

Why don’t you just quit makin’ stuff up!

Here’s Gov. Palin’s farewell speech, plus comemntary from the The Young Turks. The “quit makin’ things up” admonition is towards the beginning.

Rachel, I loved your 11/04/10 report, but I think you could have made it even better by splicing in those wise words from the Bard of Bristol Bay. Never has that learned individual spoken wiser, more applicable words.

Here’s Rachel’s 4/02/10 “stop makin’ stuff up” report on the same subject (still no Sarah Palin clip).
