Inspired by Obama will not release bin Laden photos, White House says (WashingtonPost.com 5/04/11), Officials go silent on bin Laden: White House says it won’t release photos of body or give more details about raid, Show the photos (Eugene Robinson), and Forgo the photos (Jo-Ann Armao) (Washington Post 5/05/11).
We don’t need to see the picture for proof that Bin Laden is dead.
How about a long-form death certificate instead?
The military asked Obama not to release it
Because if there’s going to be a backlash they’d like to decrease it.
That’s a good enough reason for me,
Though apparently some of Obama’s opponents disagree.
They seem to want to purposefully enrage and offend,
Because of the message that to America-haters would send.
Someone should ask those haters why
They don’t care if American soldiers die.

Here’s the White House announcement on President Obama’s decision to not release Bin Laden’s picture.
Here’s Hardball’s 5/04/11 panel discussion and commentary on the decision. I almost always agree with Eugene Robinson, but in this case I don’t (although at least his reasons for arguing for release are good ones, unlike what came out of the far right).

Here’s the Last Word’s report and discussion of whether the government should have released the picture, plus an updated account of the raid. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI): good job with the points you made. (Rogers is Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and has been shown the pictures.)
