No More Slippery Slope

December 15th, 2012

Inspired by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy’s appearance this morning on Up.

“When the Supreme Court came out and said a person had a right to own a gun, I’m saying to myself, ‘OK, that issue is off the table now: you have the right to own a gun.’” – Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) this morning on Up

I opposed it when the Supremes’ gun ownership as a constitutional right defined,

But as Rep. McCarthy points out, that dark cloud may have been with silver lined.

After that ruling, gun rightists can’t say

That the government will take their guns away.

After that ruling, gun rightists can’t contend

That the slightest gun reg the Second Amendment would end.

After that ruling, gun rightists can’t make that claim

And the NRA can’t use it, their passions to inflame.

Now, gun rightists, thanks to the Supreme Court,

Heller will any attempt at encroachment thwart.

So stop worrying, concealed carrier:

It’s like a Constitutional ski slope barrier.

If Congress ever starts to slide down that slope,

The Supreme Court steps in and says “sorry, nope.”

So could this mean that the stars are realigning?

That would indeed be a silver lining.

Here’s Rep. McCarthy this morning on Up. In addition to the quote (at the 2”30 mark in the second clip), Rep. McCarthy also tells her very compelling personal story (that’s in the first clip).
