A follow-up to last year’s July 4 post and It’s Us, inspired by America, how do I love thee? (Alexandra Petri, Washington Post 7/02/11).

Even though I’m a Democrat,

I celebrate July 4… but without the 3-cornered hat.

In spite of the patina of patriotism that hat confers,

Today isn’t just for government-hating Tea Partiers.

(A propos, how is it possible, our government to hate

And love the country our Founders this day did create?)

So please get off your collective high horse

And stop pretending the Founding Fathers your extreme views endorse.

Teabaggers, America doesn’t belong just to you:

I’m a patriot, and it’s my America too.
