He Built That

November 9th, 2012

A follow-up to Sneakers on the Ground, inspired by How the ground game trumped super PAC millions (MSNBC 11/09/12) and Data drove Obama’s ground game (The Hill 11/09/12).

“To the best campaign team and volunteers in the history of politics — the best — the best ever. Some of you were new this time around, and some of you have been at my side since the very beginning. But all of you are family. No matter what you do or where you go from here, you will carry the memory of the history we made together. And you will have the lifelong appreciation of a grateful president. Thank you for believing all the way — to every hill, to every valley. You lifted me up the whole day, and I will always be grateful for everything that you’ve done and all the incredible work that you’ve put in.” — President Obama election night victory speech

786 field offices.

8 million volunteers.

125 million personal contacts.

Over 1 million new voters registered.

376,000 door knocks on Nov. 5 in Ohio.

He built that.

The best ground game ever. You built that, Mr. President, and it got you elected in 2008 and reelected in 2012.

It was already pretty darn good in 2008, but you made it even better for 2012. You kept it going, and built on it.

Now use it. Use it as a governing tool, and to get more Dems elected in 2014. Millions of volunteers (including me) knocked on doors to get you elected and reelected, and we’ll do it again to accomplish what we and the American people elected you to do. We can knock doors for a Grand Bargain. We can knock on doors for a fairer tax code. We can knock on doors for the Infrastructure Bank. We can knock on doors to build a better America.

Can we do it?

Yes, we can.
