Inspired by George Washington’s birth 278 years ago today (on 2/22/1732), and his Farewell Address to the Nation delivered about 64 years later (on 9/19/1796).
“The common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of Party are sufficient to make it in the interest and the duty of a wise People to discourage and restrain it. It serves always to distract the Public Councils and enfeeble the Public Administration. It agitates the Community with ill founded Jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another.” – George WashingtonFarewell Address
Since this is the Father of our Country’s birthday,
I hope so, since if we to Washington’s principles bid farewell,
I don’t think our Country will do very well.
So Republicans (and Dems), listen to Dad,
Our things might get really bad.
If you’ve never seen the musical 1776, do so. It’s both enjoyable, and educational! It’s interesting to hear the Founding Fathers discussing (in song) the issues that attended our Country’s creation, many of which are still with us today.
And with this revelation about the real reason the Founding Fathers did what they did, here’s South Park’s 1776 episode (here’s the full episode; the revelation is at the 14:36” mark).
