Don’t Be a Lame Duck

November 11th, 2010

Inspired byTime Is Running Out For DADT Repeal, Pentagon Study Could Help (Huffington Post 11/10/10), Report: Little risk to lifting gay ban (Washington Post 11/11/10), and Pentagon Report Finds Little Risk to Ending ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ (Foreign Policy Magazine via Newsblaze 11/11/10). In honor of Veterans Day, support our gay men  and women in uniform by signing these petitions to urge your Senator to repeal DADT during the lame duck session. It may be our last chance.

November 2 did not go well–

We may have just one more chance to repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.

Senate Republicans the last attempt did thwart

Because they said they wanted to wait for the Pentagon report.

The Pentagon has now finished its study

And found the majority in the military don’t mind having a gay budy.

Over 70% of active duty and reserve soldiers surveyed

Were not in the least bit of repealing DADT afraid.

They say lifting the ban will have a positive effect, or no effect at all,

Contrary to all the predictions of all the disasters that would befall.

The reasons Republicans said they wanted to delay

Have therefore now completely gone away.

Now it’s time for the Senate to vote.

If we wait, the chance for repeal becomes even more remote.

There’s no more excuse, an up or down vote to duck.

So 111th Congress, don’t be a lame duck.

The House has already done it’s share–

It’s time for the Senate to honor those who the uniform wear.

All those who serve should be treated the same,

So come on U.S. Senate, don’t be lame.

Here’s Lawrence O’Donnell’s report on the Pentagon study.
