Cover of the Rolling Stone

June 23rd, 2010

A follow-up to yesterday’s post, Not McChrystal Clear.

“I extend my sincerest apology for this profile. It was a mistake reflecting poor judgment and it should have never happened. Throughout my career, I have lived by the principles of personal honor and professional integrity. What is reflected in this article falls far short of that standard.” – General McChrystal

“Today I accepted General Stanley McChrystal’s resignation as commander of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan. I did so with considerable regret, but also with certainty that it is the right thing for our mission in Afghanistan, for our military, and for our country.” – President Obama

Gen. McChrystal has been cashiered,

And field commander Petraeus has reappeared.

Petraeus is a brilliant choice,

Though he himself in the assignment doesn’t rejoice.

He already made his Middle East bones in Iraq,

Which he puts at risk by going back.

Obama is getting plaudits for decisiveness

And putting a stop to further divisiveness.

He has strongly reaffirmed civilian control of the military

As an important part of our Constitutional system (very).

And Gen. McC, your career appears to be blown.

And you didn’t even make the cover of the Rolling Stone.
