Constitutional Quiz

September 17th, 2010

Remember Mad Libs? In honor of the anniversary of the Constitution’s signing 223 years ago today (September 17, 1787), try ours below.

Do you understand and support the Constitution,

Or do you advocate ignorance and/or revolution?

Are you conservative, liberal, moderate, or extreme?

(Sometimes things are not as they seem.)

Do you believe in democracy,

Or do you just prefer hypocrisy?

If you want to know,

Take the quiz below.

***

Here’s the quiz.

  1. If democratically elected officials enact reasonable restrictions on  gun ownership, courts  should/ should not  overturn those laws as unconstitutional.
  2. If democratically elected officials enact unreasonable restrictions on  gun ownership, courts  should/ should not  overturn those laws as unconstitutional.
  3. No / Very few / Some / Most / All  restrictions on  gun ownership  are unreasonable.
  4. If democratically elected officials enact reasonable restrictions on  offensive or dangerous speech, courts  should/ should not  overturn those laws as unconstitutional.
  5. If democratically elected officials enact unreasonable restrictions on  offensive or dangerous speech, courts  should/ should not  overturn those laws as unconstitutional.
  6. No / Very few / Some / Most / All  restrictions on  offensive or dangerous speech  are unreasonable.
  7. If democratically elected officials enact reasonable restrictions on  abortion, courts  should/ should not  overturn those laws as unconstitutional.
  8. If democratically elected officials enact unreasonable restrictions on  abortion, courts  should/ should not  overturn those laws as unconstitutional.
  9. No / Very few / Some / Most / All  restrictions on  abortion on are unreasonable.

Answer key:

  • If you answered “should” to any or all of the “are reasonable restrictions unconstitutional” questions (1, 4, and 7), then you are either ignorant of or opposed to the Constitution.
  • Ditto if you answered “should not” to any or all of the “are unreasonable restrictions unconstitutional” questions (2, 5, and 8).
  • If you answered “should” to some of the “are reasonable restrictions unconstitutional” questions (1, 4, and 7) and “should not” to others, then you are also a hypocrite.
  • Ditto if you answered “should not” to some of the “are unreasonable restrictions unconstitutional” questions (2, 5, and 8) and “should” to the others.
  • If you answered “No restrictions are unreasonable” or “All restrictions are unreasonable” to any of the unreasonableness questions, then you are an extremist. If you answered “Some” to all of those, you’re a moderate.
  • If you answered “No” and “Very few” to questions 3, 6, and 9, you’re a libertarian (some/all no’s means you’re an extreme one).
  • If you answered “Most” to question 3 and “Very few” to question 9, you’re probably a liberal.
  • If you answered “Very few” to question 3 and “most” to question 9, you’re probably a conservative.

Don’t fit into any of the above categories? Then congratulations, you’re an anarchist (or maybe just confused).
