Built on Sand

August 24th, 2012

Inspired by the WashingtonPost front page picture of the sand White House built in Tampa for the Republican National Convention starting Monday.

“And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house, and it fell. And great was the fall of it.” – Matthew 7:25-27

Although the sand White House Meredith Corson built looks fantastic,

She’s hit on why people about Romney are so unenthusiastic.

At first glance, he looks like the perfect candidate,

A President that Central Casting might create.

The slightly gray temples and chiseled face,

The strict moral code with no hint of disgrace.

But in spite of the homage to Capitalism, Country and God,

Like Meredith’s White House, it’s just a façade.

The real foundation of Romney’s campaign

Isn’t saving the Olympics or his career at Bain.

Like Mitt says, his new brand of conservatism is “severe,”

And based solely on lies, hate, and fear.

Having failed to generate any honest excitement,

He’s settled instead for racebaiting and incitement.

He’s package it up and tied with a bow:

“Everything’s Obama’s fault, you know.”

But what happens to that foundation if Romney wins

And actually to govern begins?

Obama won’t be around anymore to blame,

Or Romney’s temporary supporters to inflame.

Just like Hurricane Isaac will wash Meredith’s White House away,

Romney’s foundation will disappear after Election Day.
