A Second Chance (But Do They Deserve It?)

November 6th, 2010

“The stories are being written about what this election is about… We make a great mistake if we believe that these results are somehow an embrace of the Republican Party. What they are is a second chance.”  – Marco Rubio victory speech

“This election the American people said enough is enough. That message was loud and clear. We Republicans would be mistaken if we misread these results as simply an embrace of the Republican Party. This election is a second chance. A second chance for Republicans to be what we said we were going to be.” – Marco in the Weekly GOP address

Marco, you and I don’t agree

(At least not usually).

But in this case what you said

Hits the nail right on the head.

I also think the voters have made a “great mistake”

In allowing the GOP (partial) control to retake.

With what they’ve did under Bush and since then,

I don’t think Repubs deserved to have a chance again.

Your message is echoed by other prominent Republicans too,

And (unfortunately) a majority of voters believed you.

Through hook and crook, you managed to persuade them,

But voters’ feelings have once again betrayed them.

If they’d instead really thought things through,

They would never have voted

For you.

Here’s Rubio’s acceptance speech.

Here’s Marco making the weekly GOP address yesterday – a rare honor which shows that the GOP is clearly grooming him for future leadership positions.

Here’s your theme music, Everyone Deserves A Second Chance by Raul Midon. Funny how strangely appropriate  the lyrics are (bad times, lies, pleading guilty to crimes, magic words to quell the rage), followed by some more songs about second chances.
