Tribute to Sen. Ted Kennedy
August 26th, 2009
Ted Kennedy died last night.
He was the Lion of the Senate.
He served his country all his life
Until cancer loomed to end it.
In the Senate over 40 years
(only 5 others have done so).
He carried the liberal banner.
To lose him is a blow.
Excoriated by the Right,
His style was bipartisan.
All his major bills
Had co-sponsors Republican.
For 15 months he battled cancer,
Stoically enduring that trial
Supported by family, and friends
From both sides of the aisle.
Last of a legendary group,
The brothers Kennedy.
Patriarch of a great family,
American royalty.
Looking back upon his record
And illustrious career,
The only thing that’s left to say:
Senator, we wish you were still here.
