Inspired by Sheriff Dupnik’s criticism of political ‘vitriol’ resonates with public (WashingtonPost.com 1/09/11), Rush Limbaugh: Dupnik Knew About Loughner (FreeRepublic.com 1/12/11), Arizona sheriff may be worst in U.S. (Michelle Malkin, DC Examiner 1/13/11), and Sheriff Dupnik shoots before aiming (Gregory Kane, DC Examimer 1/13/11).

Because I think it’s the vitriolic rhetoric that we hear day in and day out from people in the radio business and some people in the TV business and what we see on TV and how our youngsters are being raised that this has not become the nice United States that most of us grew up in… When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous and unfortunately I think Arizona has become sort of the capital. He knew that on the day of the shooting, which calls into great question the motives of Sheriff Dupnik here in the way he has conducted himself since the shooting and since he decided to go public on television with his idle speculation as to the reason for the shooting. From a layman’s perch here, it appears that Sheriff Dupnik has been acting with malice as he runs around and blames Sarah Palin and blames me and others who do what I do for this sordid incident.” – Rush Limbaugh 1/12/11

It would be nice if the right wing commentators would say it instead.

You’ve been criticized for being political

By those who are less used to being criticized than critical.

Due to your inappropriate allegation,

You’re apparently now the worst sheriff in the nation.

Rush has even said that Loughner’s brutal assault

Was in fact all your fault.

Letting themselves be silenced is something your critics will never do,

But they sure seem to want to silence you.

I know it’s easy to get pessimistic

And sometimes even fatalistic.

But please, don’t hang up your badge and gun

Until the work we need to do is done.
