Queen of Zombieland
November 1st, 2009
The fourth and final in our Happy Halloween quartet (as the many party-goers will agree, Halloween isn’t really over until the sun comes up). Inspired by “Ideology trumps party for Palin” (Washington Post 10/26/09), “In a war within GOP, the right wins a battle” (Washington Post 11/01/09), “G.O.P. Moderate, Pressed by Right, Abandons Race” (New York Times 11/01/09), and by the attached anti-Palin fundraising letters from Paul Begala and James Carville (Begala’s even has a nice Halloween connection). Click on the picture of Sarah below to donate to the campaign (contribute by midnight Tuesday Nov. 3 for a triple match). Check out the Newsericks Amazon Store and the widget below for our zombie movie picks (including of course this post’s namesake). And what zombie reference would be complete without mentioning Michael Jackson’s Thriller
(watch the music video below).
I think my friends that you’ll agree
It’s easier to be a political zombie.
Zombies always knows what to do
Because they never have to think things through.
Like the zombie in search of brain,
Teabaggers shamble forward, mouthing their refrain,
Repeating whatever phrase of the day
Their zombie leaders have prepped them to say.
Now the zombies assemble,
Causing even Republicans to tremble.
From state to state they shamble
Causing Republican leaders to scramble.
In New York, the Zombie Queen defected from the GOP,
Endorsing Doug Hoffman from the Conservative Party.
Republican candidate Scozzafava the Queen did rebuff
Because Scozzafava wasn’t conservative enough.
Like zombies attracted by fresh red meat,
Teabaggers massed a moderate Republican to defeat.
They forced Scozzafava out of the fight
Because they didn’t think she was far enough to the right.
Scozzafava withdrew on Halloween,
A rock and a hard place caught between.
It’s the kind of horror tale that keeps you up nights.
(Teabaggers particularly didn’t like that she supported gay and abortion rights.)
All over the country the disease does spread–
Ultra-right candidates walk like the undead.
Democrats and moderate Republicans alike
Are the subject of their extreme dislike.
Florida senatorial candidate Gov. Charlie Crist
Was a target conservatives couldn’t resist.
He’s facing ultra-conservative Marco Rubio
Because he Federal stimulus money didn’t forgo.
Even Texas Gov. Rick Perry
(Who normally is himself pretty scary)
Is starting to feel a little grim–
He’s being attacked by someone even more conservative than him.
Not to be outdone by the Zombie Queen,
The Prince of Darkness arrives at the scene.
He can control zombies, and some normal people too
(Don’t let him get control of you).
The Prince is supporting ultra-right Senator Kay
(Governor, I’m feeling a little better about you today).
Will the zombies make the Texas primary
Look like prom night in the movie Carrie?
Reader, you can keep this country from being doomed–
Don’t let our brains by these zombies be consumed.
Do your part to keep us from being overrun
(Make a donation by midnight Tuesday and it gets matched 2 to 1).
Contribute by midnight Tuesday Nov. 3 for a triple match!

Subject: Going Rogue
Do you want to see something REALLY scary this Halloween? Picture Sarah Palin endorsing a Conservative Party candidate and a favorite of the ‘tea party’ crowd in the NY-23 special election and raising $116,000 in 24 hours.
Call it the Palin Effect. Call it going rogue on her own Republican Party. Whatever we call it, we need to give it a powerful response from grassroots Democrats.
This coming Tuesday marks one year since President Obama was elected. Help us quadruple the Palin Effect by raising $500,000 and make a powerful vote of confidence for the President’s first year agenda.
Contribute $35, $50 or more before Midnight Tuesday so we can show the world how much support there is for President Obama on the first anniversary of his historic election.
This first anniversary is really important. The tea party crowd hopes to use Palin’s endorsement in the NY-23 special election to send one of their own to Congress on the very first anniversary of President Obama winning the White House. And we can’t let that happen. The inmates have taken over the asylum, and are abandoning the Republican candidate in favor of the extreme conservative.
This could either be a cause for concern or a great opportunity. Let’s make it an opportunity — a chance to see a good Democrat elected in a district that hasn’t sent a Democrat to Congress since 1852.
The Conservative candidate Mrs. Palin is backing has pledged to continue the Bush economic policies of massive tax cuts for the idle rich and endless debt for the middle class. Those are the same policies that cratered this economy in the Bush years — but Mrs. Palin is doing all she can to turn back the clock to the “good old days” of George W. Bush.
Don’t let Sarah Palin turn back the clock.
The media is closely watching what happens on Tuesday. They will use the amount of money Democrats have in the bank as a referendum on President Obama’s first year. We need all grassroots Democrats to show how strong the President is.
Contribute $35, $50 or more before Midnight Tuesday so we can show the world how much support there is for President Obama on the first anniversary of his historic election.
With the world watching, let’s send Sarah Palin and all those ‘tea party’ folks the strongest possible message that one year after Election Day 2008, President Obama is stronger than ever.
Thanks,
Paul Begala
P.S. Sarah Palin and the ‘tea party’ crowd think they can send one of their own to Congress on the very first anniversary of President Obama’s election. As the world watches, let’s tell them to think again. Help us raise $500,000 before Midnight Tuesday.

Subject: Respond to Sarah Palin
Remember all those socialist-hollering, Glenn Beck-worshiping, tea party wing nuts from this summer’s town hall meetings? If Sarah Palin gets her way, one of them could soon be a member of Congress.
Next week marks one year since President Obama was elected. The amount of money we have in the bank will be used as an instant referendum on his first year.
With Sarah Palin out there raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to stack Congress with those tea party lunatics, the media is watching to see how Grassroots Democrats respond.
Help us raise $500,000 in response to Sarah Palin’s fundraising for the tea party nut jobs. For every dollar you give before Midnight Tuesday, a group of Democrats will match it with $2 of their own, tripling your impact.
Tuesday night’s deadline is a critical test of our muscle.
I’ve been getting calls all week from media pundits asking me if Palin’s fundraising means that all those tea partying members of the right-wing fringe finally have the upper hand in their fight to bring back the George Bush days of disaster.
I need you to help us respond in the strongest possible terms.
Help us raise $500,000 in response to Sarah Palin’s fundraising for the tea party nut jobs. For every dollar you give before Midnight Tuesday, a group of Democrats will match it with $2 of their own, tripling your impact.
Send a message to Sarah Palin and those tea party nutcases who think they can retake Congress. But we only have until Midnight Tuesday to act.
Thanks,
James Carville
