Lockdown
November 10th, 2010
As reported in Fla. county locks down schools after threat (WashingtonPost.com 11/10/10 9:28 pm), an apparent follower of far right-wing and violence advocate Joyce Kaufman (read and watch the video in my earlier piece for an example of her invective) emailed her radio station with the threat that “something big was going to happen” at a local post office or school, followed by a call from a woman who said that her husband was planning an armed attack on a local school.
“He seemed to identify with many of her comments and restated them as part of the language that we took as threatening.” — Pembroke Pines Police Capt. Daniel Rakofsky, commenting on right-wing radio host Joyce Kaufman’s apparent influence on one of her listeners to take (or at least threaten) violent action by attacking a schoolWhen people advocate violent action,
It’s only a matter of time before you get this kind of reaction.
It’s a question of when, not a question of if
Whether comments like yours push someone over the cliff.
Joyce, people who regularly listen to your kind of invective
Are already likely to have a warped perspecive.
They believe all the crazy stuff you allege,
So it doesn’t take much to push them over the edge
It’s true, that the First Amendment freedom of speech does confer,
But not to shout “fire” in a crowded theater.
And the First Amendment doesn’t create
The right to your own radio show to spew your hate.
What happens when someone dies
Because of all your bigotry, incitement, and lies?
We were lucky this time, as were you.
That luck won’t hold up if you keep doing what you do.
If you don’t listen, if you don’t care
I hope that someone at WFTL takes your show off the air.
And let me remind you again that you and your violence are not welcome in DC,
As I’m sure most DC residents and other Americans heartily agree.
