Inspired by Obama calls for healing, not blame, In 2 words, Palin’s effort to address furor stokes it, and Palin and the ‘blood libel’ (Washington Post 1/13/11). Sarah Palin has come out in condemnation of media incitement of hatred. No, she’s not talking about Fox News or right wing talk radio incitement of hatred against liberal, or Muslims, or Obama. She’s talking about the “lamestream” media’s incitement of hatred against her.

 

“But what we cannot do is use this tragedy as one more occasion to turn on each other.” – President Obama speech to the Nation from Tucson, AZ

 

“Yes, we can.” – Sarah Palin (paraphrased)

 

Obama has called for healing instead of blame,

But Sarah Palin doesn’t feel the same.

 

She wants us all to know that she’s the real victim,

Not those unlucky enough to Loughner’s bullets to succumb.

 

To them, she offers Reagan and the Bible.

But to her critics she offers…

blood libel.

 

Blood libel is the false accusation

That Jews make matzo with the blood of Christian children.

 

That allegation has been the justification

For a thousand years of assassination.

 

Those and other antisemitic views

Were responsible for the horrible deaths of millions of Jews.

 

Whole communities were destroyed as a result of this myth,

And those victims are who Palin sees herself as comparable with.

 

It’s “reprehensible” that the media has incited hatred of her

By criticizing Palin’s use of crosshairs, to Gabby Giffords to refer.

 

There could be consequences to Palin’s map, one such critic pointedly said.

Unfortunately, she couldn’t issue a response due to the bullet in her head.

Here’s the Young Turks’ report. Cenk: I love your stuff, but this time you went a little wrong. “Blood libel” was not what antisemites accused the Jews of, it was what the accusers themselves were guilty of by dint of having libeled the Jews as drinkers of Christian children’s blood. So what Palin is saying is that the accusation that her crosshairs map contributed to the Tucson tragedy is a similarly bigoted, false, and libelous accusation. But other than that, great report.

Where’s Palin get the great idea to talk about blood libel? Well, she says she reads the Wall Street Journal, so maybe she got it from this article from a few days before: Glenn Reynolds: The Arizona Tragedy and the Politics of Blood Libel (WSJ.com 1/10/11).
