Peeling the Fox Onion (or, “America’s Finest News Source”)
Monday, November 29th, 2010
Inspired by Frustrated Obama Sends Nation Rambling 75,000-Word E-Mail (The Onion 11/26/10), Fox Nation’s report thereon, and Fox Nation readers confuse Onion article with real news (Raw Story 11/26/10).
I don’t know whether it’s more serious
That Fox’s editors or readers are delerious.
To begin with, it’s surreal
That a FoxNews.com editor thought the Onion story was real.
But I think it’s even more frightening
(Not to mention enlightening)
That the average Fox News consumer
Doesn’t understand the concept of humor.
It’s fitting the Fox News uses the Onion as a source citation
Since they’re both parodies of a news organization.
When you peel back the layers, you’ll find it undeniable
That Fox and the Onion are equally reliable
(And their stories equally verifiable).
But when you consider that Fox is the news source on which millions rely,
It’s enough to make you want to cry.
