Remembering
Monday, May 31st, 2010
Inspired by the almost 5,500 killed in Afghanistan and Iraq, the 38,000 wounded, the tens of thousands still over there, and all of their families.
Almost 5,500 killed in Afghanistan and Iraq.
We forget.
We’re distracted by other issues
(Healthcare reform, sex scandals, elections),
But the families aren’t.
The families of those who have died
And those who are still over there,
Wives, children, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters
Also have everyday distractions,
Like the rest of us,
But underneath all that is a constant thought
Or memory.
They can’t forget.
We can, and often do.
We shouldn’t,
Especially not
Today.

Here’s your theme music, in my view one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written, Pachobel’s Canon in D Minor.
Here’s a very touching 5/30/10 report by Fox and Friends about an 82 year old women who has been writing letters to soldiers eight hours per day for a week, every month, for the last 42 years.
